Memorial Day is right around the corner. We will celebrate and honor many brave soldiers this year on May 29th. This special day was established by John A. Logan, the Organization of Union Veterans leader, in 1868. The day was initially organized to honor the brave military service members who died during the Civil War. Over time, Memorial Day has evolved into a time of remembrance for each person that has served our country, with traditions like the Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC and the laying of the wreaths in Arlington National Cemetery. It is an honorable day that allows us to reflect on the sacrifices made by servicemen and women from the Civil War to World War II and beyond.

The Month of August is Tax-Free for Groceries

Many of us have had to make some budget adjustments regarding the grocery portion of our bills lately. The inflation we are currently experiencing has not been seen in this nation in forty years. Not to mention prices at the pump are also at an all-time high.

Governor Bill Lee announced the proposal for a 30-day suspension of local and state grocery sales tax to provide direct financial relief to Tennesseans amidst surging inflation nationwide. The state lawmakers passed the particular item in the budget that suspends sales and state tax on most groceries for the entire month of August, beginning on August 1 and ending at 11:59 pm on August 31st.
